    A real gem of a Western with a strong female lead. Montana Sands is exactly the kind of heroine you root for, tough as nails but with a soft heart. The descriptions of the Kootenai country are beautiful. A bit slow in the middle but the ending makes up for it.

    I couldnt put this down. The way Ryan writes about the Montana wilderness makes you feel like your right there beside Montana Sands. The romance snuck up on me, I didnt expect to care so much about who she ended up with. Akkomi is a fascinating character too, wish there was more of him.

    Decent enough frontier story. Some parts drag on like the poker game chapter went way too long. The dialect takes some getting used to but it ads authenticity I guess. The ending felt a little convenient. Still worth a read if you like turn of the century Westerns.

    This is what I call a hidden gem. Marah Ellis Ryan is not a household name but she should be. The way she writes about Native American characters is surprisingly respectful for 1901. Montana is one of the best female characters Ive read this year. Strong recomend.

    Good old fashioned Western with a twist. The female lead makes it diffrent from the usual cowboy stories. I liked the tension between Montana and Dan, and the mystery of the stranger kept me guessing. Some of the language is dated but thats part of the charm. Would read more from this author.
