   still holds up over 200 years later. the way shelley frames the story through walton’s letters is genius — you’re getting the story third-hand which makes it feel almost like a myth. the creature’s narrative in the middle is the best part, heart-wrenching and philosophical. this edition is clean and readable.

   so much more than the pop culture version. the book is really about loneliness and responsibility and what happens when we abandon what we create. the creature is eloquent and intelligent — nothing like the grunting monster in the movies. shelley wrote this at 19 which is absolutly insane. great ebook, good font size.

   a classic that deserves its reputation. the prose is beautiful and the story is surprisingly modern in its themes. the framing device takes a bit to get used to and the middle section drags slightly but the ending in the arctic is chilling. four stars because the constant emoting got a little overwrought at times but thats the romantic era for you.

   read this for a book club and we had so much to talk about. the ethical questions shelley raises about scientific responsibility are more relevant than ever. the creatures speech to victor is one of the greatest monologues in literature. the edition has good margins and the chapter navigation works perfectly on my phone.

   i wanted to like this more than i did. the language is very flowery and victor is such a whiny protagonist — like bro you made a monster deal with it. the creature is the only interesting character and he doesnt show up until like halfway through. maybe i just dont have the patience for 19th century prose. ebook formatting was fine though.

   my favorite novel of all time. every time i read it i notice something new. the layers of storytelling — walton writing to his sister about victor telling him about the creature — its like a russian doll of narratives. shelley understands human nature better than any author i know. this edition is beautifully formatted, no complaints at all.
