Together they discover that true happiness lies not in wealth or status, but in the quiet courage of knowing one’s own heart.
Description
Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility (1811) chronicles the romantic trials of the Dashwood sisters as they navigate the treacherous waters of Regency society.
After the death of their father, Elinor, Marianne, and their mother are cast out of their family estate by a cruel half-brother. Forced to take up residence in a modest cottage in Devonshire, the sisters must rely on their wits and virtues to find their way in the world.
Elinor represents “sense” β prudence, discretion, and emotional restraint. When she forms an attachment to the gentle Edward Ferrars, she keeps her feelings hidden, bound by honor and circumstance.
Marianne embodies “sensibility” β passion, spontaneity, and romantic idealism. She falls devastatingly for the dashing John Willoughby, believing their connection to be fated.
Both sisters suffer heartbreak, endure societal scrutiny, and ultimately learn that wisdom and feeling must walk hand in hand. Austen’s debut novel remains one of the most beloved works of English literature, a razor-sharp comedy of manners wrapped in a deeply moving love story.

Sense and Sensibility is one of those books I reread every year and this edition does it justice. The text is clean no OCR errors that I noticed which is suprisingly hard to find. Austen’s prose is just *chefs kiss*. The way she can skewer somebodys entire personality with one sentence is unmatched. If you like Pride and Prejudice youll love this its just as sharp and maybe even more emotionally devastating in places. Highly recomend.

Picked this up because I saw the movie years ago and wanted to read the original. The book is better obviously. Its interesting seeing how Austen sets up the contrast between the two sisters and how they both learn from eachother by the end. The formatting is clean and the chapter marks are accurate. My only complaint is the introduction by Austin Dobson felt a bit unnecessary but I guess completists appreciate it. Good value for six bucks.

My grandmother gave me a worn out paperback of this when I was twelve and this digital edition brings back so many memories. Its like visiting old freinds. Elinor Dashwood is honestly one of the greatest heroins in literature and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. The cover is lovely and the table of contents actually works which is rare in my experience. Five stars no question.

Good book but a bit slow in the middle. I get that Austen was satirizing society or whatever but half the time I wanted to shake the characters and tell them to just talk to eachother. Still, the writing is beautiful when she wants it to be. The chapter where Edward finally shows up at the cottage is perfect. Also the EPUB works fine on my phone which is more then I can say for some other editions Ive downloaded.

I absolutely adored this book. Marianne is so romantic and impulsive just like me honestly. The part where she gets her heart broken by Willoughby had me literally crying. Elinor is kind of annoying with all her keeping calm and hiding her feelings but I guess thats the point of the story. The font and layout on my Kindle is really nice no complaints.
