Grateful Peter’s New Year’s Gift by Ruth Lamb

Description

On the last evening of the year, with the snow falling heavily and the same shrill wind that howls in the keyholes roaring in the chimneys, a small boy named Peter is out in the streets of the little town. He has a grateful heart and a plan — and everything that happens in this quiet children’s story follows from what he wants to give, though the story’s real gift is the one he receives.

Ruth Lamb wrote within the great Victorian and Edwardian tradition of the holiday moral tale, but she tells hers without heaviness: the snow, the doorstep, and the kindness that passes from one hand to another are allowed simply to be what they are. A short, warm-hearted book that keeps faith with the meaning of New Year.

Why readers still come back to it

• A gentle, snowy holiday tale in the classic moral tradition
• Emphasises kindness and gratitude over presents and spending
• Perfect short reading for the Christmas and New Year season
