   honestly one of the scariest books ive ever read and i read a lot of horror. the way stoker builds tension through diary entries is genius — you know something terrible is coming but you cant look away. the first few chapters in the castle are pure nightmare fuel. this edition is clean and easy to read on my phone. highly recommend.

   classic for a reason. the atmosphere is incredible — stoker makes you feel the cold of transylvania and the fog of whitby so vividly. i loved the epistolary format even though it took me a bit to get used to the different voices. some parts drag a little (the middle section with lucy’s suitors got repetitive) but the ending is perfect. great edition, no formatting issues.

   been meaning to read this for years and finally did. absolutly lives up to the hype. Van Helsing is such a great character — this wise old dutchman with his broken english and bizarre methods. the chase back to transylvania at the end had me on the edge of my seat. the edition includes the original 1897 text which is how it should be read.

   what can i say that hasnt already been said. stoker created the blueprint for vampire fiction and nobody has done it better since. the scene where jonathan realizes the count has no reflection still gives me chills. the book is surprisingly modern in its pacing — doesnt feel like a 19th century novel at all. excellent formatting.

   i can see why people like this but honestly i found it quite boring. the diary format makes everything feel distant and theres way too much detailed description of mundane things. also the dialect writing is hard to follow. maybe i just dont like gothic fiction. the ebook itself is well formatted though no complaints there.

   a cornerstone of horror literature and its easy to see why. the novel is so much richer than any movie adaptation — the crew of light, the folklore elements, the tragic fate of lucy westenra. stoker really knew how to create a sense of dread that builds slowly and pays off. minus one star because the van helsing phonetics got a little annoying after a while. otherwise perfect.
