Description

Rupert S. Holland’s King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table brings the enduring legends of Camelot to life for modern readers. Based on Sir Thomas Malory’s Le Morte d’Arthur, this edition presents the full sweep of Arthurian romance in clear, accessible prose.

The story begins with Merlin foretelling Arthur’s birth and the young king’s miraculous drawing of the sword Excalibur from the stone. From there unfold the adventures of the Round Table — the founding of Camelot, the love of Arthur and Guinevere, the exploits of Sir Lancelot, the quest of Sir Galahad for the Holy Grail, and the tragic downfall of Arthur’s kingdom.

Along the way we meet Sir Balin who strikes the Dolorous Stroke, Sir Beaumains who proves himself the equal of any knight, Sir Tristram whose love for Isolde rivals Lancelot’s, and Sir Gawain whose loyalty to Arthur endures to the very end. Each knight’s tale weaves into the larger tapestry of Camelot’s rise and fall.

Holland’s adaptation preserves the grandeur and tragedy of Malory’s original while making the stories approachable for contemporary audiences. This edition presents the complete 1919 text, carefully formatted for modern e-readers.

I grew up on Arthurian legends but this version had some stories I hadnt heard before. The section with Sir Beaumains was new to me and turned out to be one of my favorites. The language is a bit old fashioned but thats part of the charm. Would of liked more illustrations though.

  2. camelotFan42

Absolutely love this collection. The story of Sir Balin and the Dolorous Stroke is so tragically beautiful. Holland did a great job making Malory accessible without dumbing it down. The quest for the Holy Grail section gave me chills. Only complaint is the font could be bigger but thats a ereader thing not the book.

  3. dragonSlayer_99

Its alright. Lots of knights fighting and chivalry stuff which is cool but the middle section drags quite a bit. Sir Tristram’s story goes on forever. I get that its a classic but I found myself skipping pages. The ending with Arthur’s passing was well done I suppose.

  4. ladyOfTheLake

This is exactly what I needed. The magic of Camelot, the tragedy of Lancelot and Guinevere, the nobility of Galahad. Its all here. Holland’s adaptation is perfect for someone who wants the full Arthurian cycle without struggling through Middle English. Ive already read it twice. Highly recomend.

  5. justHereForTheSwords

Good book lots of battles and honor and stuff. The sword fights are described really well you can picture it all. Sir Gawain is my boy. A bit long though, like do we realy need that much detail about every single joust? Overall solid.
